Bently Nevada Gas Turbine Solutions

For over 30 years, Bently Nevada products have been used by gas turbine manufacturers and end users to monitor these machines. Over the past few decades, gas turbines have evolved more than any other type of turbomachinery. Improvements include higher firing temperatures, the use of advanced composite and alloyed materials; extremely sophisticated cooling mechanisms for components such as blades, nozzles, and transition elements; innovative methods to reduce emissions; and significant improvements in overall thermal efficiency. Not surprisingly, these technological innovations have made gas turbines the engine of choice for many types of power generation and mechanical drive applications. Today, there are a huge number of gas turbine plants in operation around the world.

However, while gas turbines have undoubtedly evolved in complexity, the approach to vibration monitoring on these machines has remained largely unchanged. What has changed are additional measurements that complement Bently Nevada’s vibration monitoring products, such as combustion instability monitoring, hazardous gas detection, flame detection, exhaust gas temperature diagnostics, thermodynamic performance monitoring and overspeed detection.

 

SpeedTronik Mark control systems

SpeedTronik’s state-of-the-art Mark VI control systems represent a legacy of thirty years of successful engineering. They include both gas turbine and generator control systems as well as protection and parameter monitoring systems. The equipment was developed not only by instrumentation engineers, but also by mechanical engineers, to ensure maximum control of the turbine while maintaining maximum performance. And they succeeded admirably.

The control system consists of three main components – controllers, I/O networks and I/O modules.

The Mark VI controller is a single board that runs the application code. The controller communicates with the I/O systems through the built-in I/O network interfaces.

The Mark VI I/O modules contain three main elements: a terminal board, a terminal block, and an I/O block.

One of the main functions implemented in the Mark VI is turbine overspeed protection. It is available at three levels – control level, main level and alarm level.
