Solar Taurus 70 belongs to the family of industrial gas turbines with a modular design.
The Taurus 70 is available in two versions:
- Single-shaft version with constant temperature control. It is used for power generation (generator unit).
- Twin-shaft version with adjustable antenna. Used in mechanical drive units.
Solar Taurus 70 GTU is an enlarged design of its predecessor GTU Solar Taurus 60 and is characterized by a 38% increase in capacity, which is obtained as a result of installation of another 2-stage compressor.
Production of the first Solar Taurus 70 gas turbines started in 1995.
Technical parameters of the Taurus 70 turbine-generator set
- Power (electrical) – 7,965 MW;
- Efficiency (electrical) – 33.8 %;
- Generator voltage – 3.3…13.8 kV;
- Specific heat consumption of fuel – 10 505 kJ/kWh;
- Exhaust flow rate – 96 775 kg/h;
- Exhaust temperature – 510 ˚C;
- Dimensions (DxWxH) – 11,3×2,8×2,8 m;;
- Weight of the unit – 56,885 kg.
Design features
Axial air compressor with 14 stages can develop a fan speed of 15,200 rpm. Compressor pressure boost ratio: 16:1. The housing connector is vertical. Inlet guide apparatus is adjustable.
The chamber is ring annular. Available in standard and low emission version with SoLoNOx dry suppression system. Number of fuel nozzles: 24 and 12 respectively. Types of fuel: natural gas (main), diesel fuel, low-emission gas. Option: installation of dual fuel system.
Power turbine is axial with different stages. The surfaces of the turbine nozzles and blades are specially coated to increase their resistance to high temperatures and operation.
As a connecting link between the gas turbine and the generator a planetary reducer is used, characterized by the data exchange speed of 1 500 rpm at the frequency of 50 Hz.
GTU control is carried out by means of Turbotronic system based on microprocessors.
